Alex Montagu
Attorney, trial lawyer and arbitratorMr. Montagu started his career in 1991 at Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP in New York City. After S&C, he established MontaguLaw, focusing on intellectual property law, international commercial transactions and new media commercial and corporate law. His clients range from startup enterprises to Fortune 500 companies and his practice encompasses a variety of industries such as culinary, financial services, publishing and cosmetics. Mr. Montagu also serves as General Counsel to a number of companies where he is responsible for advising on all aspects of his clients’ legal affairs including managing litigation, drafting and negotiating agreements and managing the companies’ intellectual property portfolios.
In addition, Mr. Montagu has been an arbitrator on a number of cases before the International Chamber of Commerce. He is also is a regular speaker at international conferences on a wide variety of intellectual property, business and legal matters.
Mr. Montagu received his J.D. with honors from Harvard Law School and his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, graduating summa cum laude. He also has a B.A. and M.A. in Law from the University of Cambridge where he received Double First Class Honours.

Ken Aldous - Of Counsel
Attorney, trial lawyer and arbitratorMr. Aldous is an experienced attorney, trial lawyer and arbitrator. Qualified to practice in both the U.S. and the UK, Mr. Aldous has represented a wide range of diverse interests in complex litigation before various federal and state courts, as well as in domestic and international arbitration. For over a decade, Mr. Aldous developed and honed his legal skills at Proskauer Rose LLP, and later was a Partner in the New York office of London-based Mishcon de Reya, focusing his general litigation practice on international, multi-jurisdictional and cross-border dispute resolution. He also gained considerable experience working on secondment as the Head of Litigation for BT Americas Inc. (a subsidiary of British Telecommunications plc) and as Litigation Counsel for NYSE Euronext.
Mr. Aldous's activities in both private and in-house practice have included a varied array of commercial matters and disputes, including representations and consultations involving antitrust/competition law; telecommunications law; securities litigation; trade-secret, copyright/trademark and other forms of intellectual property protection; non-compete and employment-related issues; insurance; sports law; legal ethics; and other commercial disputes. He also has also served as an arbitrator and maintains an active pro-bono caseload.
Mr. Aldous received his J.D., cum laude, from Boston College Law School and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in EC Law, with merit, from King's College London. In addition to a B.A., summa cum laude, from Oral Roberts University, Mr. Aldous holds degrees in history from The University at Albany-SUNY and Oxford University.

Paula Upson
AttorneyMs. Upson is the latest attorney to join the firm. After ten years as an in-house trademark paralegal for a multinational information and publishing firm Ms. Upson made the smooth transition as an attorney and was quickly able to bring her knowledge and expertise to assist with the firm’s rapidly expanding trademark practice. In addition to managing a docket of over 7,000 trademarks registered globally, she frequently advises clients on the feasibility of using and registering trademarks in those core jurisdictions where the firms’ clients do business and has extensive experience working with the USPTO and other similar foreign agencies at each stage of the life of a trademark.

Thomas Walsh
AttorneyMr. Walsh’s focus is on intellectual property law and commercial licensing agreements. He drafts and negotiates a variety of agreements, including data license and SaaS agreements, IP license agreements, NDAs, coexistence agreements and IP assignments. He regularly represents clients on a wide variety of intellectual property issues, including national and international trademark filing, enforcement, infringement risk, marketing and advertising strategies. Mr. Walsh manages trademark portfolios for clients in the financial information, blockchain, culinary and publishing areas. Mr. Walsh also has extensive trademark and domain name dispute experience, including filing and defending actions before the TTAB and recovering domains through UDRP actions. Mr. Walsh received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, and his undergraduate degree from The College of the Holy Cross.

Shmuel R. Bulka - Of Counsel
Shmuel Bulka is a seasoned general counsel and business leader with more than 25 years of experience advising companies on complex legal and strategic matters. He most recently served as General Counsel of Coin Metrics, a cryptocurrency data and analytics company, where he managed the legal function, advised executive leadership, and led initiatives in AI governance, data privacy, and compliance. He helped guide the company through its Series C financing and its successful sale to Talos Trading. Earlier in his career, Shmuel spent two decades with Refinitiv (formerly Thomson Reuters’ Financial & Risk division), ultimately serving as General Counsel, Americas. In that role, he led a large legal team supporting a $2 billion business, and played a key role in major transactions including Refinitiv’s $17 billion private equity acquisition by Blackstone and its $27 billion sale to the London Stock Exchange. His experience spans commercial contracting, data, technology and SaaS licensing, strategic partnerships, intellectual property, and M&A. Shmuel began his career in private practice before holding senior in-house roles at Bridge Information Systems. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and his B.A., cum laude, in Political Science from Yeshiva University. He is admitted to practice in New York.
